The seventh round of the season took place at the Red Bull Ring, where CL Motorsport faced a challenging weekend marked by racing incidents and tough battles in the midfield.
In the opening qualifying session, Michael Belov secured 14th, while Enea Frey lined up 17th and Zhenrui Chi 22nd on the grid. Race 1 unfortunately came to an early end for Frey and Chi, who were both involved in a race incident and forced to retire. Belov delivered a consistent run, moving up to 11th place.
In the second qualifying session, Frey started from P19, Belov from P22, and Chi from P24. Sunday’s race proved demanding, with all three drivers fighting hard in the pack. At the chequered flag, Belov recovered to P17, Chi finished in 22nd position, and Frey decided to retire due to an injury.
Michael Belov: “It wasn’t the easiest weekend, but I tried to maximize every opportunity. We kept fighting and brought the car home just outside the points. Hopefully in Barcelona we’ll be able to push further up the grid.”
Enea Frey: “A very frustrating weekend, especially with the retirement in Race 1. We showed potential in some phases, but couldn’t turn it into a good result. We’ll reset and come back stronger next time.”
Zhenrui Chi: “It was an overall positive experience, getting on track for the first time with this car. It was completely different from anything I’ve driven so far, but I think it was a great learning experience.”
David Li, Team Owner Representative: “It was a tough weekend for us here in Spielberg. The incident in Race 1 was unfortunate, especially as both Frey and Chi had the pace to move forward. Belov once again proved solid and consistent, keeping us close to the points. We will take the positives and keep pushing for stronger results in the next races. We are confident that our efforts will pay off in the upcoming rounds.”
CL Motorsport now looks ahead to the next round, determined to convert the team’s efforts into stronger results. The eighth round of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine will take place from September 19 to 21 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, in Spain.
